Description
Baking up a batch of Apple Pie Bars is the ultimate way to savor the flavors of fall. These irresistible bars combine the classic taste of apple pie with a buttery, crumbly crust that will have your taste buds dancing with delight.
Ingredients
- 2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup cold butter
- 6 cup thinly sliced apples
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 2 tablespoon cornstarch
- 2 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Caramel sauce (optional)
Instructions
1. Preheat your oven to 350°F and line a 9×13 inch baking pan with parchment paper.
2. In a large bowl, combine the flour, granulated sugar, and salt. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Press two-thirds of this mixture into the bottom of the prepared pan.
3. Bake the crust for 15 minutes, or until it’s lightly golden. Allow it to cool slightly.
4. While the crust is baking, toss the sliced apples with brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, cornstarch, lemon juice, and vanilla extract in a separate bowl.
5. Spread the apple mixture evenly over the crust. Sprinkle the remaining crumble mixture on top.
6. Return the pan to the oven and bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the apples are tender.
7. Allow the bars to cool completely in the pan. Lift them out using the parchment overhang and slice into delightful squares. Drizzle with caramel sauce if desired.
Notes
Choose a mix of tart and sweet apples for balance.
Adjust sweetness to your taste by modifying brown sugar.
Bake the crust before adding filling for a firmer base.
