Description

Baked Egg Boats are a creative and satisfying twist on traditional egg dishes, filled with a rich and creamy egg mixture, baked to perfection and topped with melted cheese and crispy bacon.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 demi baguettes or French bread
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream or milk
  • 1 cup cheddar or Gruyère cheese
  • 4 ounce cooked bacon or pancetta
  • 1/4 cup green onions
  • 2 tablespoon butter
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Set your oven to 350°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Prepare the Bread: Cut a deep V shape through the top of each baguette or French bread, stopping about 1/2 inch from the bottom. Hollow out the bread, leaving the walls intact. Brush the inside and outside of the bread with a melted butter and garlic mixture.
  3. Make the Egg Mixture: In a bowl, whisk the eggs and cream (or milk) together until well combined. Stir in half the cheese, the cooked bacon or pancetta, green onions, salt, and pepper.
  4. Assemble the Boats: Sprinkle the remaining cheese in the bottom of each hollowed-out bread boat. Carefully pour the egg mixture into the boats, distributing it evenly.
  5. Bake to Perfection: Pop the filled bread boats into the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the eggs are set, puffed, and golden brown.

Notes

Garnish the boats with a sprinkling of fresh parsley for a beautiful presentation.
