Description
Campbell’s Green Bean Casserole is a beloved Thanksgiving side dish made with green beans, creamy mushroom soup, and crispy fried onions.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound green beans
- 1 can (10.5 ounce) condensed cream of mushroom soup
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 cup crispy fried onions
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F.
- If using fresh green beans, trim the ends and blanch them in salted boiling water for 3-5 minutes until bright green and slightly tender, then transfer to an ice bath. If using frozen green beans, thaw and drain them. Drain canned green beans well.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the condensed cream of mushroom soup, milk, soy sauce, and black pepper until smooth.
- Add the drained green beans and 2/3 cup of the crispy fried onions to the bowl. Gently fold everything together until the green beans are evenly coated with the sauce.
- Transfer the mixture to a 9×9-inch baking dish and spread it into an even layer. Bake for 25 minutes until bubbling.
- Remove from the oven, stir gently, and top with the remaining 1/3 cup of crispy fried onions. Return to the oven for an additional 5 minutes until the onions are golden.
Notes
For extra flavor, consider adding minced garlic or shallots to the sauce. You can also experiment with different toppings like crushed potato chips or panko breadcrumbs.
