This recipe takes the classic Cantonese barbecue pork dish and transforms it into a tender, juicy chicken that’s perfect for a quick weeknight dinner or a weekend feast.

- 1 pound boneless, skinless chicken thighs
- 2 tablespoon hoisin sauce
- 2 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 2 tablespoon honey
- 2 tablespoon Shaoxing wine
- 1 teaspoon Chinese five-spice powder
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon ginger, minced
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1/4 teaspoon red food coloring (optional)
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon white pepper
Instructions
- Combine hoisin sauce, soy sauce, oyster sauce, brown sugar, honey, Shaoxing wine, five-spice powder, garlic, ginger, sesame oil, and red food coloring (if using) in a large bowl.
- Whisk the ingredients together until well-incorporated, then add the chicken thighs and toss to coat.
- Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight.
- Preheat oven to 400°F and line a baking sheet with foil.
- Place a wire rack on top of the baking sheet and arrange the marinated chicken thighs in a single layer on the rack.
- Bake for 15 minutes, flip the chicken, and brush with glaze.
- Continue baking for another 10 minutes or until cooked through.
- Turn on the broiler and broil for 2-3 minutes to char the exterior.
- Let the chicken rest for 5 minutes before slicing.
- Serve over steamed rice or noodles, or in a bun.

For a healthier option, consider cooking in an air fryer at 380°F for 18-20 minutes, flipping halfway through.
