Description

Cheesy Chicken Broccoli Orzo is a comforting and flavorful one-pot meal that combines tender chicken, broccoli, and creamy, cheesy orzo pasta.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 tablespoon butter
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cup broccoli florets
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 cup orzo pasta
  • 3 cup chicken broth
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 cup cooked shredded chicken
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper

Instructions

1. Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add the olive oil and butter, allowing them to melt and blend together. Once the pan is hot, add the finely chopped onion and sauté until it becomes translucent and starts to caramelize, about 5-7 minutes.

2. Stir in the broccoli florets and minced garlic, cooking for an additional 2-3 minutes until the broccoli is slightly tender and the garlic is fragrant.

3. Add the uncooked orzo pasta to the skillet and toast it for 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly. Then, pour in the chicken broth and bring the mixture to a simmer. Cook the orzo, stirring occasionally, until it’s tender and the liquid has been absorbed, about 8-10 minutes.

4. Stir in the heavy cream and Worcestershire sauce, followed by the shredded cooked chicken. Heat the mixture through, allowing the flavors to meld.

5. Remove the skillet from the heat and stir in the freshly shredded cheddar cheese until it’s melted and the sauce is creamy. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

6. Spoon the Cheesy Chicken Broccoli Orzo into bowls and enjoy!

Notes

For a vegetarian option, omit the chicken and consider adding additional vegetables like sautéed mushrooms or diced bell peppers.

For a gluten-free option, swap the orzo pasta for a gluten-free alternative like rice-based pasta or cauliflower rice.
