Description

Bake Up Holiday Cheer with Christmas Sprinkle Buttermilk Bread

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 large egg, lightly beaten
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted and cooled
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1/2 cup Christmas-colored jimmies (sprinkles)
  • 2 cup powdered sugar, sifted
  • 3 tablespoon buttermilk (plus more as needed)
  • 1 tablespoon light corn syrup

Instructions

1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 9×5-inch loaf pan with parchment paper.

2. In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and kosher salt.

3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, lightly beaten egg, melted and cooled butter, and almond extract.

4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir just until combined. Gently fold in the colorful Christmas jimmies (sprinkles).

5. Transfer the batter to the prepared loaf pan and bake for 45-50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Allow to cool in the pan for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

6. Once cooled, whisk together the powdered sugar, 3 tablespoon of buttermilk, and corn syrup until thick and pourable. Drizzle over the top of the bread and sprinkle with festive nonpareils.

Notes

Ingredient Substitutions: Substitute vanilla extract or ground cinnamon for almond extract.

Adjusting Sweetness: Reduce sugar by 2-3 tablespoon for less sweetness.

Baking Time and Temperature: Keep an eye on the bread during baking; it’s done when a toothpick comes out clean.

Storing for Freshness: Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 2 months.

Flavor Variations: Add chopped nuts, dried cranberries, or a swirl of cinnamon-sugar for extra flavor.
