Classic Beefaroni is a comforting pasta casserole made with ground beef, tomato sauce, and elbow macaroni, perfect for satisfying cravings for hearty meals.
Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 14.5 ounce canned diced tomatoes
- 15 ounce tomato sauce
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 cup elbow macaroni
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
Instructions
1. In a large skillet, brown the ground beef over medium-high heat, breaking it apart with a spoon as it cooks.
2. Once the beef is browned, add the diced onion and minced garlic to the skillet. Cook until the onion is softened and translucent.
3. Stir in the diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, dried oregano, and dried basil. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Allow the mixture to simmer for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
4. While the beef mixture is simmering, cook the elbow macaroni according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
5. Once the beef mixture has simmered, add the cooked macaroni and stir until well combined. Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese over the top, cover the skillet, and let it sit for a few minutes to allow the cheese to melt.
6. Serve the Classic Beefaroni hot, garnished with additional fresh herbs or a sprinkle of Parmesan cheese, if desired.
Notes
For a healthier version, use leaner ground beef, whole-wheat pasta, and reduce the amount of cheese or add more vegetables.
