Deep-Fried Bacon Cheeseburger Corn Dogs are a delicious twist on the classic corn dog. They consist of a hot dog or a burger patty wrapped in a layer of cheese and crispy bacon, then dipped in cornmeal batter and deep-fried until golden brown. This indulgent treat combines the flavors of a cheeseburger with the fun of a corn dog.
Ingredients
- 4 hot dogs
- 4 wooden skewers
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup cooked and crumbled bacon
- 1 cup cornmeal
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 large egg
- 2 tablespoon mustard
- 2 tablespoon ketchup
- Vegetable oil for frying
Instructions
1. Insert wooden skewers into the center of each hot dog, leaving enough stick exposed to hold the corn dog comfortably. Set aside.
2. In a large bowl, whisk together the cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and pepper. In a separate bowl, combine the buttermilk, egg, mustard, and ketchup. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until smooth. Gently fold in the shredded cheddar cheese and crumbled bacon.
3. Pour the oil into a deep fryer or large pot, and heat it to 350°F.
4. Dip each hot dog into the cornmeal batter, ensuring it’s fully coated. Allow any excess batter to drip off before placing the battered hot dogs into the hot oil.
5. Fry the corn dogs for 3-4 minutes, or until they’re golden brown and crispy. Work in batches if necessary to avoid overcrowding the fryer.
6. Remove the fried corn dogs from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain any excess oil. Serve hot with extra ketchup, mustard, or your favorite dipping sauce.
Notes
For a little extra heat, try adding diced jalapeños to the batter or topping the corn dogs with sliced jalapeños before frying.
You can use turkey, chicken, or veggie burger patties instead of traditional beef for different dietary preferences.
