Elevate Your Meatloaf with the Savory Flavors of French Onion Soup
Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 cup yellow onions, sliced
- 1 cup Gruyere cheese, shredded
- 1/2 cup panko breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
- 2 large eggs
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1/2 cup beef broth
- 1/4 cup red wine
- 2 tablespoon butter
Instructions
1. Sauté the sliced onions in olive oil over medium heat until golden brown, adding sugar to help caramelize.
2. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, half of the Gruyere cheese, panko breadcrumbs, parsley, eggs, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix gently.
3. Form the mixture into a loaf shape and place in a greased baking dish. Bake at 350°F for 45-50 minutes until internal temperature reaches 160°F.
4. For the sauce, melt butter in the skillet used for onions, add beef broth, red wine, and Worcestershire sauce. Stir in caramelized onions and simmer.
5. Pour the sauce over the meatloaf and top with remaining Gruyere cheese. Return to oven for 10-15 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly.
Notes
