Get ready to indulge in a mouthwatering fusion of savory pork, caramelized onions, and melted cheese – welcome to the world of French Onion Pork Chops! This dish is the ultimate comfort food, blending the rich, onion-y goodness of French onion soup with the tender, juicy texture of pan-seared pork chops.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 pieces boneless pork chops (1-inch thick)
- 2 tablespoon olive oil
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- 2 large yellow onions, thinly sliced
- 2 tablespoon unsalted butter
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
- 1 ½ cup beef broth
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1 cup shredded Gruyère or Swiss cheese
- Fresh parsley for garnish
Instructions
- Season the pork chops generously with salt and pepper. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Sear the chops for 3-4 minutes per side until they’re golden brown. Remove the chops from the pan and set them aside.
- In the same skillet, melt the butter over medium-low heat. Add the sliced onions and sugar, and cook for 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the onions are golden brown and caramelized to perfection.
- Stir the minced garlic into the caramelized onions and cook for 30 seconds. Sprinkle in the all-purpose flour and cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly.
- Gradually pour in the beef broth, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the pan. Stir in the dried thyme and let the sauce simmer for 5 minutes, or until it’s thickened to your desired consistency.
- Preheat your oven to 375°F. Nestle the seared pork chops back into the skillet, making sure they’re surrounded by the caramelized onions. Top the chops with the shredded Gruyère or Swiss cheese.
- Transfer the skillet to the preheated oven and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the pork chops reach an internal temperature of 145°F and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Garnish the French Onion Pork Chops with fresh parsley. Spoon the rich, onion-y sauce over the top of the chops and serve immediately.
Notes
