Description

A classic dessert that transports us back to grandma’s kitchen, showcasing the natural sweetness of ripe bananas layered between fluffy vanilla wafers and a silky smooth custard.

Ingredients

Sugar

Flour

Salt

Milk

Eggs

Vanilla extract

Vanilla wafers

Fresh bananas

Instructions

1. Whisk together sugar, flour, and salt in a saucepan.

2. Gradually whisk in the milk, ensuring there are no lumps.

3. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until thickened.

4. In a separate bowl, beat the eggs.

5. Slowly pour some of the hot milk mixture into the eggs while whisking to temper them.

6. Pour the egg mixture back into the saucepan and cook for 2 more minutes, stirring constantly.

7. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.

8. In a 2-quart serving dish, layer vanilla wafers, sliced bananas, and custard.

9. Repeat layers until all ingredients are used, ending with custard on top.

10. Cool slightly, then refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving.

Notes

For best results, use ripe but firm bananas.

Make with fresh ingredients for authentic flavor.

Avoid overcooking custard to prevent graininess.
