- 1 small onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced

- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 14 ounce pizza sauce or marinara sauce
- 32 ounce frozen tater tots
- 2 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese, divided
- 1 cup pepperoni slices, divided
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F. Lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish with cooking spray.
- In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook the ground beef and diced onion until the beef is browned and the onion is softened, about 7 to 8 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for 1 minute more. Drain any excess fat.
- Stir in the salt, pepper, Italian seasoning, and pizza sauce. Mix well and let simmer for 2 to 3 minutes to combine the flavors.
- Spread the seasoned beef mixture evenly in the bottom of the prepared baking dish. Sprinkle 1 cup of the mozzarella cheese over the meat. Arrange half of the pepperoni slices on top. Cover completely with a single layer of frozen tater tots.
- Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the tater tots are golden brown and crispy.
- Remove the casserole from the oven and sprinkle the remaining 1 1/2 cup of mozzarella cheese and the remaining pepperoni slices over the top. Return the dish to the oven and bake for 5 more minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Let the Pizza Tater Tot Casserole stand for 5 minutes before serving. Garnish with extra Italian seasoning, if desired.
