This beloved Italian-American dish combines the creamy richness of ricotta cheese, the savory goodness of ground beef, and the comforting warmth of baked pasta. Whether you’re hosting a family gathering or simply craving a hearty and satisfying meal, these jumbo pasta shells are sure to delight your taste buds and leave your guests raving.

Ingredients

  • Jumbo Pasta Shells: 12-16 shells
  • Ground Beef: 1 pound
  • Ricotta Cheese: 15 ounces
  • Egg: 1 large
  • Italian Seasoning: 1 teaspoon
  • Salt and Pepper: to taste
  • Mozzarella Cheese: 1 cup, shredded
  • Marinara Sauce: 2 cups
  • Parmesan Cheese: 1/2 cup, grated

Instructions

Step 1: Cooking the Jumbo Pasta Shells

Begin by bringing a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the jumbo pasta shells and cook according to the package instructions, typically around 8-10 minutes, until they are al dente. Drain the cooked shells and rinse them with cold water to stop the cooking process.

Step 2: Cooking the Ground Beef

In a skillet over medium-high heat, cook the ground beef until browned and crumbled, about 5-7 minutes. Drain any excess fat from the skillet and set the cooked beef aside.

Step 3: Mixing the Filling

In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked ground beef, ricotta cheese, egg, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper. Stir until well incorporated.

Step 4: Stuffing the Shells

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Spread a layer of marinara sauce in the bottom of a baking dish. Carefully fill each cooked pasta shell with the ricotta beef mixture and place them in the prepared baking dish.

Step 5: Assembling the Dish

Top the stuffed shells with the remaining marinara sauce and sprinkle with shredded mozzarella cheese and grated Parmesan.

Step 6: Baking and Serving

Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly. Let cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Feel free to substitute ground beef with ground turkey or Italian sausage.
  • For a vegetarian option, consider using sautéed mushrooms or spinach.
