Description
Slow Cooker Apple Cider Pulled Pork is a mouthwatering dish that combines the sweet, tangy flavors of apple cider with the savory, tender goodness of pork shoulder. This easy-to-make recipe is the perfect comfort food for any occasion, from cozy family dinners to backyard barbecues.
Ingredients
- 5 pound boneless pork shoulder
- 2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 2 yellow onions, sliced
- 2 teaspoon Dijon mustard
- 6 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon fresh thyme, chopped
- 2 1/2 cup apple cider
- 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
Instructions
1. Prepare the Dry Rub: In a small bowl, mix together the salt, pepper, smoked paprika, and cinnamon.
2. Season the Pork: Rub the dry mixture evenly all over the pork shoulder, ensuring it’s coated on all sides.
3. Layer the Onions: Place the sliced onions in the bottom of the slow cooker and mix them with the Dijon mustard, garlic, and thyme.
4. Add the Pork: Carefully place the seasoned pork shoulder on top of the onion mixture.
5. Pour in the Liquids: Pour the apple cider and apple cider vinegar around the pork, taking care not to wash off the dry rub.
6. Cook to Perfection: Cover the slow cooker and cook the pork on low for 8 hours or high for 5 hours, until the meat is tender and shreds easily.
7. Shred the Pork: Remove the pork from the slow cooker and shred it using two forks, discarding any twine or netting used to hold the roast together.
8. Combine and Serve: Mix the shredded pork back into the cooking juices in the slow cooker.
Notes
The pulled pork can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 4 days or in the freezer for up to 3 months.
