Description

Sticky Chinese Pork Belly is a dish that promises to tantalize your taste buds with its succulent pork belly coated in a glossy, sticky sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pound pork belly, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoon hoisin sauce
  • 2 tablespoon honey or brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon grated ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon Chinese five-spice powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chili flakes (optional)
  • 2 green onions, sliced
  • Sesame seeds

Instructions

1. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the pork belly pieces and sear them until they’re browned and caramelized on all sides, about 8-10 minutes.

2. Reduce the heat to medium, then add the soy sauce, hoisin sauce, honey or brown sugar, rice vinegar, oyster sauce, water, garlic, ginger, five-spice powder, and chili flakes (if using). Stir the mixture to combine the flavors, allowing the sauce to simmer and meld together.

3. Bring the mixture to a gentle boil, then reduce the heat and let it simmer uncovered for 25-30 minutes, stirring occasionally. As the sauce reduces, it will thicken and become increasingly sticky, coating the pork belly in a mouthwatering glaze.

4. In the final stages, increase the heat slightly to help the sauce further caramelize and coat the pork belly. Stir continuously to prevent burning and ensure the pork is evenly coated in the glossy, sticky sauce.

5. Transfer the Sticky Chinese Pork Belly to a serving dish and garnish it with sliced green onions and sesame seeds. This dish is best served hot, with steamed rice or noodles.

Notes

Leftover Sticky Chinese Pork Belly can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. To reheat, simply place the pork in a skillet or saucepan over medium heat, stirring occasionally until heated through.
