  • 4 large apples, peeled and sliced
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoon butter, melted

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F.
  2. Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
  3. In a medium bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon.
  4. In a separate bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  5. Beat in the eggs one at a time, mixing thoroughly after each addition. Then, add the vanilla extract.
  6. Alternately add the dry flour mixture and milk to the butter mixture, starting and ending with the flour.
  7. Place half of the apple slices on the bottom of the prepared pan. Pour half of the batter over the top. Repeat with remaining apples and batter.
  8. In a small bowl, mix the brown sugar and melted butter. Sprinkle this mixture over the top of the cake.
  9. Bake for 45 to 50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  10. Let the cake cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before slicing.
