Description

Breakfast Pigs in a Blanket is a delightful combination of tasty breakfast sausage wrapped in fluffy, golden dough. This fun and versatile recipe is perfect for families, brunch gatherings, or even as a quick weekday breakfast option.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 20 cooked breakfast sausage links
  • 1 can (8 ounce) refrigerated crescent roll dough sheets
  • OR 1 can refrigerated cinnamon roll dough for a sweeter version
  • 2 large eggs
  • 3 tablespoon whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoon pure maple syrup
  • 2 to 3 tablespoon whole milk or cream
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • Warm maple syrup
  • Powdered sugar for dusting, optional

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F.
  2. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper and lightly spray with cooking spray.
  3. In a skillet over medium-low heat, cook breakfast sausage links until browned and cooked through. Remove and place on a paper towel-lined plate.
  4. In a shallow bowl, whisk together eggs, whole milk, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and maple syrup until smooth.
  5. Unroll crescent dough sheets and cut into 20 equal triangular pieces.
  6. Brush each piece of dough lightly with custard wash. Place one sausage link at the wider end of each triangle and roll up tightly, pressing the seam to seal.
  7. Arrange wrapped sausages seam side down on the baking sheet, spacing them apart. Brush tops with custard wash and bake for 12 to 15 minutes until golden brown.
  8. In a small bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, pure maple syrup, whole milk or cream, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt until smooth.
  9. Drizzle warm maple glaze over the baked pigs in a blanket or serve as a dipping sauce.

Notes

Consider using turkey sausage or vegetarian alternatives for a healthier option.

Explore different flavored doughs like herb or cheese crescent rolls for an added twist.
