Combining the rich, savory flavors of sharp cheddar cheese with the crisp, bright green beans, this casserole delivers a satisfying and indulgent experience that’s perfect for Thanksgiving, Christmas, or any festive gathering.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound fresh green beans
  • 2 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 can (10.5 ounce) cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 cup French fried onions

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. Blanch the fresh green beans in boiling salted water for about 5 minutes until bright green and tender-crisp. Drain and set aside.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine the cream of mushroom soup, sour cream, and half of the shredded cheddar cheese. Stir until smooth and well-combined.
  4. Gently fold the blanched green beans into the creamy cheese sauce until evenly coated.
  5. Transfer the mixture to a greased baking dish and spread it out evenly. Top with the remaining shredded cheddar cheese and French fried onions.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes until the cheese is melted and the top is golden brown and crispy.

Notes

For a heartier casserole, stir in cooked chicken, turkey, or crumbled bacon. Use low-sodium cream of mushroom soup to reduce salt content.
